FRAGMASENSE
FragmaSense AS was founded in 2003 based on an idea to develop technology to detect (sense) liquid droplets (fragments). The idea materialised in a unit tested on an offshore installation, liquid carry over was detected but not as droplets in the process gas.
Droplets, oil or water from a separator or gas scrubber will rapidly be transported to the pipe-wall and transported as liquid film! That has been verified during injection of oil or water-soluble isotopes in the gas flow.
The interest for R&D work started during the period with Norsk Hydro. Norsk Hydro built test facilities for real oil process testing, literally offshore but onshore.
During that period, I designed and tested small diameter liquid/liquid hydrocyclone, various flotation processes, oil and water separators and together with Alfa Laval, disk stack centrifuges for oil and water.
The offshore troubleshooting and test activity have provided unique insight in various technologies, pros and cons working in real processes. Applying advanced pressurized sampling, neutron technology and radioactive tracer methods have provided unique insight and understanding of the various challenges the industry faces.
Currently this knowledge is utilized in the design of a subsea separation technology, Dual Pipe Separator.
My philosophy is simple: Shear my knowledge and experience before I retire from an interesting industry!
Patent pending and applications:
- Method and system for separating oil well substances
- System for improved Topside Separation (iTS) of gas, oil and water
- Separator system and method for breaking down a dispersion band
- An arrangement for removing liquid from a flow of natural gas in a gas pipe
Educational Seminars
Serving the oil and gas industry for many years has generated a unique understanding of what can be described as normal or un-normal operational challenges. The intention with the seminar is to shear the knowledge with the operators, remove some myths and improve the operators confidence in own understanding being an operator. Based on request from the oil industry, FragmaSense has prepared seminars that are custom-made to meet the day-by-day challenge for offshore personnel working with gas/oil/water production.
Seminars focusing on separation challenges are custom-made for the clients’ production facilities:
-
Transport of fluids from the reservoir to topside.
-
Normal production and how that influence on separation.
-
Two- or three-phase separators; inlet section, level- and interface control, residence time and coalescing internals. An explanation of normal and abnormal situations and how to tackle those.
-
Typical components utilized in a process train.
-
Production chemicals; how they work and how to optimise.
-
Produced water treatment. How to optimize the different stages in a system with multiple stages.
-
Experience and operation of the separation system on the specific platform.
-
Proposal and interchange of experience on how to address process stages/units causing problems, and possible corrective actions.
The platform specific section has proven to be particularly useful in giving the background for the process design at the specific platform, link between the separation theory and observed experience and how regularity and efficiency can be improved.
Who:
-
Process technicians. Control room and field operators.
-
Supervisors
-
Production superintendents
-
Process engineers. Involved in design, optimization or assets responsibilities.
